Better vision for AMD patients
Prof. Dr. med. G U Auffarth
TOKYO World Ophthalmic Congress — A novel multifocal intraocular lens with high near addition provides low vision patients with good distance vision and the ability to read with reduced or no need for specialized devices, reported Prof. Dr. med. Gerd U. Auffarth, Chairman of the Eye Department and Head of the D J Apple Laboratory at the University of Heidelberg.
The Oculentis Lentis Mplus High Add IOL is a hydrophobic acrylic biconvex IOL which has a +8 D sector-shaped near addition resulting in 6 D of near correction at the spectacle plane and 1.5 times magnifying power. “It provides image magnification for near — quite useful for AMD patients who normally have to rely on low vision reading aids such as magnifying glasses or electronic reading desks,” Prof. Auffarth told surgeons attending the World Ophthalmology Congress.
