Bochum, Germany 7th March 2014: At the 28th annual meeting of the German-speaking Society of Intraocular Lens Implantation, Interventional and Refractive Surgery (DGII)* the award for “Best paper of the Session” in the First Scientific Sessions on Presbyopia went to Dr. med. Katharina Linz, Assistant Doctor in the Department of Ophthalmology in the Heidelberg University Clinic.
Dr Linz’s paper ” Evaluation of functional results and reading performance using the Salzburg Reading Desk after implantation of a segmental refractive multifocal IOL ” reported on research carried out in the David J Apple International Laboratory for Ocular Pathology in Heidelberg. The Salzburg Reading Desk© (SRD) is a specially-designed instrument that helps investigators assess a patient’s reading acuity, reading speed and visual function. The instrument simulates a natural reading environment and calculates acuity as distance corrected logMAR and reading speed under various illumination and contrast levels. It is a helpful tool in assessing Multifocal IOL patients.
Dr. med. Linz has been working her residency and her research fellowship in the Heidelberg Eye Department, the IVCRC (International Vision Correction Research Center) and the Apple Lab since July 2013.
